“Abstracting Parables”

Spacial design / publication

Abstracting Parables presented by sonsbeek20→24, the international Arnhem based art manifestation and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam brings together three historical artistic positions, that of: Dutch-Jewish painter and composer Sedje Hémon (1923-2011), Afro-Brazilian painter, poet, essayist, dramatist and member of Parliament Abdias Nascimento (1914-2011), and Pakistani artist and designer Imran Mir (1950-2014).

Abstracting Parables is conceived as a three-chapters exhibition that highlights the artists’ multifaceted oeuvres across geographies and histories, as parables that stretch forms and ideas, and become carriers of aesthetic, socio-political, spiritual, scientific, historic-economic discourses.

I was commissonned to create the graphic landscape around the exhibitition as well as three readers launched simultaneously.
The identity took inspiration in the heritage of each artist which makes each publication singular through a cohesive approach.

For the spacial graphic design, I collaborated with spacial designer Setareh Noorani; Implemented the reflection on colours, text placement, as well, as created an immersive wall paper for the  contextualisation room. This central room was conceived as a connector for social gathering as it hosted a parasite radio as well as events and performances.
